WARNING: Exploding Carafe December 28, 2009

I purchased the Krups 269-70 carafe and used it less than a month. It was on the kitchen counter empty, at room temperature and had not been touched for almost six hours. It spontaneously shattered with the sound of a small explosion. Small shards of glass were actually thrown out the top and were on the counter and floor. I was luckier than most because mine was empty and didn't leave a ten cup mess for me to clean up. After reading the other reviews, I believe the manufacturer is deliberately selling a dangerous, defective product.

I purchased the carafe from [...] who told me that they do not warrant anything they sell and they would do nothing for me. They also told me that they had never heard of the carafe shattering or exploding.

I would recommend not purchasing anything from [...] and not purchasing Krups products.

The first time we used this item, it worked great for about two hours - then we heard a crash, which we thought was pots settling in the cupboard as we'd just emptied the dishwasher. Shortly thereafter, I noticed coffee all over the counter. I accused my wife of not properly closing the filter thingy before brewing. Imagine our surprise when we realized it was the glass inside and now the pot leaked all over the counter. Luckily, we'd purchased this as a second pot for entertaining - naturally, the fist time we used this one, it was Thanksgiving morning. Now I have to go back to Krups for a replacement. I can't wait to start that process. There is clearly a problem with this item. I can only hope that Krups makes it right with little effort - clearly not the first time they'll have heard this complaint.

Don't Buy! Carafe Explodes When Used. April 13, 2009

My first Krups carafe exploded with a loud crack when sitting on the kitchen counter about 15 minutes after the coffee had been brewed into it. The results were disastrous... 12 cups of coffee (filled with minute slivers of glass) flowing off the counter onto the floor and into my lower cupboards and drawers. Foolish me (I'd had the coffee maker for about two years but had only used it a half-a dozen times), I bought a replacement carafe for $40.

I was extraordinarily careful with the new carafe... I never bumped it, I always washed it carefully, and I always pre-heated it by filling it with successively warmer amounts of water. Nevertheless, 53 weeks after its purchase, the 2nd carafe exploded when sitting on my living room coffee table (again untouched by anyone for about 15 minutes). This time, I got coffee with slivers of glass in my carpet. Since it was now more than a year old, and no longer under warranty, I got no satisfaction from Krups. When called, the Krups representative was apologetic and offered to send me a coupon toward the purchase of a new carafe. When I got the coupon, It required that I spend more than $100 to get $10 off. USELESS... and NEVER AGAIN. FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU-- FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON BOTH OF US. I certainly won't go for a third time. They have treated me so poorly I will never buy another Krups product again.

Krups carafe explodes! February 20, 2009

This is the 3rd Krups coffee thermal carafe I've had. With the first carafe we entered our kitchen in the morning to find coffee all over the floor from a carafe which broke when it automatically brewed in the morning.
The second carafe exploded when I was washing it. Fortunately I did not have my hand in the carafe. The third carafe just exploded while it was sitting on my counter, upside down, drying. The explosion was tremendous.
Never, ever buy this.

First off, let me state at the beginning that the product that I received for a gift for my daughter was excellent. However, the ordering problems that I had experienced were terrible.

When I was ordering the product I did not see that I was going to pay dearly for the shipping, as I had ordered earlier from Amazon and received free shipping. Yes, I know it was my fault, however, two hours later I realized that I was being charged for shipping and tried numerous emails and phone calls to delete the transaction. I was told by the vendor that they "ship" from the warehouse in less than 24 hours and could not stop it as it would be at my door in two days.

Well, it did not arrive at my door for six full days, and they said they would take it back but I had to pay for the shipping (again) back to the vendor.

I received absolutely no help and/or cooperation from eithier Amazon or the vendor on how to quickly resolve the problem in the first two hours.

I am completely disatisfied with my latest experience, and would recommend to others "let the buyer beware". I know I played a part in this problem, but quickly recogized my error in less than two hours and tried to correct the problem immediately

Bottom line..............I am not a happy camper and I am really upset at the help or rather non help and cooperation I did not receive
